What is a Defensive Driving Program? Does your business need Defensive Driving? No single driver training program can meet everyone’s needs. Look over the choices on the following page and select the course that is best for you. Our certified instructors will come to your site at a date and time convenient for scheduling your drivers. Instructor Development Courses are available to train a member of your staff to become a National Safety Council certified instructor. Do you need a Defensive Driving Course? If refresher training is your objective, the four-hour course (DDC-4) is most popular with individuals and employers, and is recommended by several insurance companies for safe driver discounts. The course addresses such topics as road rage, crash avoidance, reducing distractions, child passenger safety and driver responsibilities. Also available on-line. DDC-PTD—professional truck drivers are involved in fewer collisions than other motorists, but collisions involving trucks are far more deadly and costly. DDC-PTD gives truck drivers defensive driving techniques that help them avoid collisions and violations. Like our other DDC courses, it focuses on personal responsibility and the consequences of the driving decisions we make. Coaching Programs are self-contained driver safety programs targeted to specific groups of drivers. Each program is based on Defensive Driving concepts and then expanded to include discussions of problems unique to the type of vehicle and industry setting faced by the targeted drivers. Coaching programs do not require certified instructors and are intended for purchase by a company for their training libraries. These programs offer great flexibility as they may be presented in modules as time permits, and are suitable for individual as well as group instruction. They may be used as stand-alone training or as follow-up or refresher training in conjunction with a standard Defensive Driving Course. The Safety & Health Council of Northern New England can provide you with preview copies for demonstration and evaluation purposes.
