NH Defensive Driving 6 Hour
Point Reduction Class Schedule

What is a Defensive Driving Program?
It all starts with the Defensive Driving Concept. Yes, we teach basic rules of the road, but defensive driving is much more than that. Proven DDC techniques teach drivers to create a zone of safety around themselves and their vehicles. They learn how to stay in control, regardless of road conditions or what other drivers, cyclists or pedestrians are doing. DDC innovations show drivers how to spot hazards quickly and to take appropriate defensive action. DDC is developed by the National Safety Council, the nation’s largest not-for-profit organization promoting safety and health. No other driver improvement course has a higher rate of success in reducing severity and frequency of collisions on our highways.

Does your business need Defensive Driving?
• Traffic crashes are the leading cause of all work-related fatalities and result in an estimated annual loss of $1.9 billion. So, if you had the chance to increase the safety and lengthen the lives of your drivers by increasing their driving skills, wouldn’t you?
• Are you concerned about your liability in case of collisions in which your drivers are at fault?
• Are you looking for a way to reduce insurance rates for substantial savings?
• Defensive driving can help your people drive more safely, on or off the job.
Long-term benefits include increased productivity, better community relations, and on-time performance, no matter what the job.

No single driver training program can meet everyone’s needs. Look over the choices on the following page and select the course that is best for you. Our certified instructors will come to your site at a date and time convenient for scheduling your drivers. Instructor Development Courses are available to train a member of your staff to become a National Safety Council certified instructor.

Do you need a Defensive Driving Course?
Our six-hour course (DDC-6) is approved by the states of Maine and New Hampshire as a “Driver Improvement Course” for the purposes of reducing points charged for traffic violations. This course offers excellent videos, graphics and current information in an interactive format. Courses are offered frequently at several locations throughout New Hampshire and Maine.

If refresher training is your objective, the four-hour course (DDC-4) is most popular with individuals and employers, and is recommended by several insurance companies for safe driver discounts. The course addresses such topics as road rage, crash avoidance, reducing distractions, child passenger safety and driver responsibilities.

Also available on-line.

DDC-Alive at 25—this course specifically targets drivers between the ages of 16–25, the group far most likely to be involved in fatal crashes. This highly effective program encourages young drivers to take responsibility for their driving behavior. Information is presented in a non-lecture, interactive format. It emphasizes why young drivers underestimate risks; effects of inexperience, distractions and peer pressure; collision prevention and local laws and regulations. Outstanding course to be taken in lieu of traffic convictions.

DDC-PTD—professional truck drivers are involved in fewer collisions than other motorists, but collisions involving trucks are far more deadly and costly. DDC-PTD gives truck drivers defensive driving techniques that help them avoid collisions and violations. Like our other DDC courses, it focuses on personal responsibility and the consequences of the driving decisions we make.

Coaching Programs are self-contained driver safety programs targeted to specific groups of drivers. Each program is based on Defensive Driving concepts and then expanded to include discussions of problems unique to the type of vehicle and industry setting faced by the targeted drivers. Coaching programs do not require certified instructors and are intended for purchase by a company for their training libraries. These programs offer great flexibility as they may be presented in modules as time permits, and are suitable for individual as well as group instruction. They may be used as stand-alone training or as follow-up or refresher training in conjunction with a standard Defensive Driving Course.

The Safety & Health Council of Northern New England can provide you with preview copies for demonstration and evaluation purposes.
