Have you ever wanted to make a difference in someone’s life but not known where to start?

NSC’s Safety Ambassador Program provides you with many opportunities to protect your family, neighbors and others in your community.Anyone can be a Safety Ambassador. There is no age limit or time commitment required. All that's needed is a desire to protect those you care about.

Sign up and receive the Safety Ambassador Kit, including materials on where the greatest number of preventable injuries and deaths are occurring, such as:

  • Motor vehicle accidents
  • Falls
  • Unintentional drug overdose
  • Overexertion

Whether directly, or indirectly, each of us has been touched by these issues. Yet, the injuries and deaths caused in these areas are preventable. Change can happen, but the council can’t do it alone.

Help NSC Perform A Million Acts of Safety
NSC is calling on our Safety Ambassadors to help perform A Million Acts of Safety. Why? The number of people being hurt or killed each year because of unsafe behaviors is unacceptable. In 2007, there were 74,000 deaths in the home and community. Each of those deaths could have been prevented.

We’re asking the public to get involved and share safety messages with people they know. Imagine if all our Safety Ambassadors shared this information with 5 of their friends and so on.

When you sign up as a Safety Ambassador, be sure to create a username and password for “A Million Acts of Safety.” This will allow you to add your acts of safety to the national registry throughout the year.

How You Can Help

Recruit organizations you are involved in, such as your business, high school, boy/girl scout troop, church group, neighborhood or sign up as an individual. One seemingly small act has the potential to save lives. Find safety tips throughout our Website. Here are a few acts to get you started:

  • Clear your walkways of clutter.
  • Tell others not to use their cell phones while driving.
  • Create a home evacuation plan.
  • Post safety messages to your Facebook page ( The number of friends you have will be your number of people reached ).
  • Don’t share your prescription drugs and properly dispose of expired drugs.
  • Require passengers in your vehicles to buckle up.
  • If you don’t feel comfortable presenting the materials in the Safety Ambassador Kit, print out the posters and tip sheets and display them throughout your community.

We will be gathering your acts of safety and sharing ideas and best practices throughout the year. Tell us your success stories by e-mailing media@nsc.org. Together we can make a difference!
